Moritz Daniel Oppenheim, “the painter of the Rothschilds & the Rothschild of painters,« was not only the first Jewish artist with an academic background but also a symbol of Jewish emancipation in Germany. Young filmmaker Isabel Gathof is looking for Oppenheim’s traces – motifs, descendants and heritage – in Germany, France, and Israel, on the occasion of the world's first monument honoring the artist.

In 2016 she released her debut documentary Moritz Daniel Oppenheim about the Jewish painter who adopted Christianity for his art, and in 2017 received the Award by the Ministry for Science and the Arts for the film.
