Babi Yar. Context by Sergey Loznitsa will be screened at the Closing ceremony of the Moscow Jewish Film Festival.

The Closing ceremony of the 7th Moscow Jewish Film Festival will take place on October 12 and will feature a screening of Babi Yar. Context, a documentary film by Sergei Loznitsa. The film is also part of the Festival’s Documentary Feature Competition.

Sergei Loznitsa is a Ukrainian director, screenwriter, producer, editor, and cinematographer, whose films have been frequently screened at European film festivals. In 2018, he won the Directing Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival for his narrative feature, Donbass.

Babi Yar. Context is a project that came out of the collaboration between Sergei Loznitsa and the Babi Yar museum. The documentary precision of the narrative, remarkable for its neutral position, is enabled by the unique archival materials used in the film and its attention to detail. The director studies the idea of the genocide and places the horrors of Babi Yar in the global context.

Babi Yar. Context is the winner of the Golden Eye, the top documentary award at the Cannes Film Festival.
