Timur Weinstein, Head of the 5th MJFF Jury, general producer of NTV:

We usually expect films on national themes to cause a wide range of emotions. I watched every film of the Festival’s program and I am happy that I got to experience so many different feelings. I had tears in my eyes by the end of «A Hand Sewn Star», I couldn’t stop laughing while watching «Double Date», I gnashed my teeth and hated everything that was happening on screen for the length of «Nazi VR», I was emotionally crushed after watching «The Waldheim Waltz». I could talk about every single one of the films endlessly. I want to say a huge thank you to the creators of the Festival who selected the pictures.

The special Yakov Kaller Award for the best Russian Jewish-themed film was given to Alexey Fedorchenko’s film «Anna’s War».

The inaugural special Organizers» Award was bestowed upon director Nina Paley, the author of the animated feature «Seder-Masochism».

Berel Lazar, the Chief Rabbi of Russia, awarded the Special Award of the 5th Moscow Jewish Film Festival for Contribution to Preservation of Sephardic Culture and History to Yigal Dias Benzion, the President of the Jewish Community of Oporto who represented the film «Sefarad».

During the Opening ceremony of the 5th MJFF, the Public Council of the Festival awarded the Honorary prize «For outstanding contribution to the development of the Jewish cinema in Russia» to director Dmitry Astrakhan.
