One of the most successful Russian directors and producers will head the 6th MJFF Jury.

The Jury of the 6th Moscow Jewish Film Festival will be headed by the Russian film director, producer, and screenwriter Timur Bekmambetov. He is the creator of the screenlife cinema, a storytelling form that is booming in 2020. To honor the director who created dozens of screenlife films, the Festival’s design this year will employ the elements of the format when the action unfolds on screens of personal laptops or mobile devices.

Timur Bekmambetov, President of the 6th MJFF Jury::

I feel honored by the fact that screenlife became both the form and the stylistic decision of the Jewish Film Festival in this turbulent year, when most of us have completely shifted into the digital, virtual space – the world on screens of our personal devices. One of the most ancient people and one of the most ancient cultures, which were part of all major historical events and witnessed the change of epochs and paradigms, today have found themselves, it seems, at the beginning of a new era entirely. Therefore, it is even more important to reflect upon and make sense of eternal themes and relevant problems through formats that align with the spirit of our time – such as the screens of our personal electronic devices, from which we became inseparable during the last several months.

At the end of the Festival, the Jury will determine its winners in the following competition categories: Best Film, Best Documentary Feature Film, Best Narrative Short Film, Best Documentary Short Film, and Jury Prize. Traditionally, it will also name the recipients of two special awards: the Honorary Award “For the Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Jewish Cinema in Russia” and the special Yakov Kaller Award “For the best Russian Jewish film of the year.”
