The 5th Moscow Jewish Film Festival announces its competition and out of competition program.

The Moscow Jewish Film Festival continues to showcase the extraordinary diversity of the films on Jewish themes: main subjects of their plots are far from being reduced to national stereotypes. The competition program, for example, includes seven feature films created in five different countries (USA, Israel, Poland, Slovakia, Ethiopia) in different genres, such as political comedy («Unorthodox»), black comedy («To Dust»), road movie («The Interpreter»), coming-of-age drama («Red Cow» and «Fig Tree») and animated film (»Seder-Masochism»).

Konstantin Fam, producer of the 5th MJFF:

The Moscow Jewish Film Festival is not just a series of film screenings on Jewish themes. MJFF is a complex event that includes, alongside its competition program, rich out-of-competition and educational programs. After screenings, audiences will have a chance to have conversations with filmmakers or participate in discussions on themes of the films. As part of the Festival, we will show the iconic Soviet film «Triumph over Violence» by Mikhail Romm, film «Skin» by Guy Nattiv that won an Oscar this year for the short film of the same name, and many others.

Another competition programs are even more unexpected. The documentary one will show stories that took place in real life, including ones about German porn actor (“Jonathan Agassi Saved My Life”), Russian writer (“Dina Rubina. On the Sunny Side”), Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu (“King Bibi”) and others. Besides, the MJFF will screen the most significant and resonant Jewish films of recent years, such as the winner of the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival (“Synonyms”), new work of the two-time winner of the Palme d’Or of the Cannes Film Festival (“A Fortunate Man” by Bille August), sensational screen adaptation by the Prix Goncourt winner (“Promise at Dawn”) and the Russian premiere of “Skin”, the Oscars film about contemporary skinheads.
