The Program of Feature Films
The 10th Moscow Jewish Film Festival announces its feature film program.
Among the seven films selected for the main feature film competition are: the musical odyssey «Brother Sings to Brother» by Ari Gold, the creator of The Adventures of Power; the comedy about battling panic attacks «Life Is a Fairy Tale» (directed by and starring Matthew Shear); the drama about a Jewish family in a Romanian village at the end of the 19th century, «Passion Week» by Andrei Kon; the poignant story of the largest Jewish arrest in occupied France, «All Life Ahead» by Nils Tavernier; the family comedy-drama about one day of apartment hunting in Haifa, «Real Estate» by Anat Maltsa; João Jardim's film «Polkas» about Polish refugees struggling for a new life in Brazil in 1917; and the romantic tragicomedy «Property» by Dana Modan, based on a graphic novel by the director's sister.
Nine works will compete for the title of best short fiction project: Noam Weitzman's comedy «Elisha» about a social worker; the family portrait «The Family» by Morgan Gruer; the silent reflection on cultural interaction «If» by Sherry Halperin; the musical «Malka» by Stacey Maltin, based on a story by the screenwriter and composer Seth Bisen-Hersh's grandmother; the tragicomedy about the clash between age-old traditions and maternal feeling, «It Doesn't Even Hurt» by Sarah Stern; Daniel Moreshet's film «Holiness» about a religious Jewish couple secretly leading a secular life; the personal story from 1947 «Soldier on Smithdown Road» by Thomas Harnett O'Meara and Barney Pell Scoles; the social comedy «The Volunteer» by Rinat Mazuz; and the romantic story about a young actor couple, «Sleeping?» by Michael Aloni.
Out of competition, the following will be screened: David Haddad's series «Die Zwieflers» about a family gastronomy empire, whose first episodes will open the festival; Amit Ulman's noir rap-opera «The City»; and Gregory Boubtoule's inspiring comedy about stereotypes and redemption, «From Rags to Riches».
