Opening film of the 9th MJFF announced
The 9th Moscow Jewish Film Festival will be opening with the premiere of the film «Zone of Interests».
On November 24th, the October Film Center will be hosting the opening ceremony for the 9th Moscow Jewish Film Festival (MJFF), which will run until December 1st and will feature a wide range of the best international films with Jewish themes.
The first film screening at the festival will be the Russian premiere of the British director Jonathan Glazer's film «Zone of Interest». The film won the 2024 Academy Award for Best Sound and Best Foreign Language Film.
According to the plot, in occupied Poland in the summer of 1943, Hedwig, the mother of five, desperately wanted to maintain her organized life. She had worked hard to create a paradise for her family, growing a garden and building a greenhouse. However, as the war continued, it became increasingly difficult for her to ignore the reality around her. Her husband, Rudolf Hess, was an SS officer and commandant at Auschwitz. The concentration camp stood only a few meters away from their house, and the smoke, ash, and muffled cries from behind the high walls were a constant reminder of the brutality of the situation.
