8TH MJFF CLOSING FILM WAS ANNOUNCED
The premiere of the series «Poor Abramoviches» will be screened at the Closing ceremony of the 8th MJFF.
The first three episodes of START online cinema's family comedy «Poor Abramoviches» directed by Ilya Farfel will be seen by viewers and guests of the closing ceremony of the 8th Moscow Jewish Film Festival, which will be held on September 10 in the premiere hall of the Oktyabr Film Center.
The film will be presented by his team, and after the screening there will be a Q&A session with them. Traditionally, before the premiere screening, awards will be presented to the winners and prize-winners of the festival.
The plot of the series takes place in the center of Moscow, where four generations of a Jewish family live under one roof. And although the Abramoviches live very close to the synagogue, they are all very far from Jewish traditions, religion and identity, with the exception of old Musya Lvovna. Borja sells (and eats) pork, unsuccessfully trying to succeed in business, his son David hides his origins, and his wife Alla doesn't even realize how much she resembles a real Yiddishe mother. But everything changes one day when a lightning bolt strikes Borya, who is running away from the collectors. Coming to his senses, he meets his ancestor's spirit - the noxious old man Haim. Once Haim committed a terrible sin and brought a curse on their entire family. Only Bora is able to remove it from the Abramovich family, but to do this he needs to free Haim's soul.
Series director Ilya Farfel grew up in Israel, studied and lived in Los Angeles. In 2009 he graduated from The Los Angeles Film School, and in 2017 he moved to Moscow. As a director, Ilya has worked on the following projects: the TV series «Family War» and «Shorter» for the online cinema START, the films «Desperate Sharecroppers» and «Faberge Egg».a
