About film
The Papashvili brothers, arriving at the airport from where one of them is supposed to fly to Israel at his wife's insistence, wanted to drink champagne. They wanted to, but it wasn't sold on Soviet territory, so Merab crossed the border using his brother's passport and bought a bottle. But they wouldn't let him back in. So, instead of Yakov, the children's choir conductor, it was his strikingly similar brother, taxi driver Merab who flew to Israel. This bittersweet comedy tells the story of his misadventures, escapades that defy all imagination. Jews mistake him for a KGB agent, Soviet trade mission officials take him for a provocateur, and he can't officially return home.
