About film
The story follows a young rabbi's son living in Berlin on the eve of World War II. After the pogroms of Kristallnacht, when his father's synagogue is burned down, David's ordinary life shatters. His family goes underground in an attempt to survive, but soon his parents are arrested. Left alone, David is forced into hiding, constantly moving between shelters and forging new documents. A dangerous encounter with a German officer finally convinces him that to survive, he must sever all ties and rely solely on himself.
