About film
The documentary Elie Wiesel: A Soul on Fire gives voice to the Holocaust survivor, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and one of the 20th century's most powerful public intellectuals. Eighty years after the liberation of Buchenwald, director Oren Rudavsky draws on archival footage and personal testimonies to explore Wiesel’s most intimate dimensions, revealing not just the public intellectual but the man—his emotions, doubts, and inner conflicts. The film is structured around Wiesel's memoir Night, complemented by interviews, personal correspondence, and exclusive family materials. Special attention is paid to the philosophical aspects of his legacy—his reflections on God and silence, on humanity and indifference, and on the human right to be vulnerable. Through animated sequences, dramatic reconstructions, and precise editing, the film becomes more than a portrait; it is an attempt to create a dialogue between generations. It is a story about preserving a voice, even as the number of firsthand witnesses grows ever smaller.
