About film
Dry, sardonic, and impeccably deadpan, Charles Grodin was considered one of the most recognizable comedians of his generation. Yet, for the last twenty years of his life, he devoted himself to a cause far removed from the film industry. This is the story of an actor turned activist, who used his fame not for personal gain, but to fight for the freedom of the wrongly convicted – primarily Black mothers with young children. James L. Freedman's film weaves together archival footage, talk show appearances, and interviews with Grodin and his colleagues – from Steve Martin and Robert De Niro to Alan Arkin and Elaine May – alongside the voices of those whom Grodin helped free from prison.
