About film
Batel, an Orthodox girl from a group home, is completing her national civilian service as an assistant at a girls» school. She volunteers to chaperone Noya, one of the school’s most troubled students, during a field trip. Noya is already in the principal’s bad books for her behavior and cannot go alone, so she is forced to agree. But Batel’s stubbornness leads them off course, and the two end up lost in the woods, where long nighttime conversations bring them closer than either expected.

Rinat Mazuz completed two years of national service before enrolling in the four-year film program at the Ma'aleh School of Film and Television. Her second-year project, Broken Mirror (2022), was screened at several international festivals and won the Best International Student Drama Film award at the Jersey Shore Film Festival. The Volunteer is her graduation film.
