About film
After losing his job as a paralegal, Sam Stein (Matthew Shear) begins suffering from panic attacks. To make ends meet, he takes a job as a nanny for the three granddaughters of his own psychiatrist (Judd Hirsch). The girls» mother, Diane (Amanda Peet), is an actress whose once-promising career has stalled. Her marriage to David (Alessandro Nivola), a rock bassist, is also struggling. When David goes abroad for a concert tour, Diane and Sam feel a growing attraction to each other. Later, Sam joins Diane's family on vacation – again, as the nanny – and ends up spending the entire summer in a house with the woman he's drawn to, her husband, their children, and all the grandparents, including his own psychiatrist.
