About film
Bricklayer Nathan Becker returns to the USSR after emigrating from tsarist Russia. Together with other residents of the town, he goes to work on a construction site as part of the first five-year plan. Having understood social competition as competition, Becker challenges one of the masons to a bricklaying contest and loses. The depressed hero fears being fired, but his masonry technique is approved and subsequently used by not only his team but also the entire construction site.
