Anyuka, which means «mother» in Hungarian, is a short animated film that tells the story of Maya Erdelyo's grandmother's life. Veronica Feldes Frame is a World War II refugee and survivor of the Holocaust who has lived on three continents. The film uses animation, photographs, and home videos shot on Super 8 to illustrate Veronica's journey from Hungary to Venezuela and then to the United States.Director Maya Erdely explores themes such as trauma passed down through generations, the life of the Jewish diaspora, immigration, motherhood, and religious identity in different parts of the world.
