About film
From the outside, the Kichka family appears to be a typical Belgian family: a father, a mother, two daughters, and two sons. However, the father, Henry, often retreats to his office to read diaries that he does not want his curious sons to see. The family avoids discussing Henri's time in Auschwitz and prohibits talking about it outside the household. The plot unfolds through the eyes of the eldest son, Michel, and gradually reveals the complex relationship between father and son, the tragedies of the past and present, and Michel's move to a new country — Israel. The animated film effectively captures the mood of Michel Kichka's graphic novel Second Generation: The Things I Didn't Tell My Father, which is based on real events and memories of himself and his family.
