About film
Documentary cinema is remarkable for its ability to often uncover real-life stories that might easily be mistaken for fiction or mirage, stories that seem too extraordinary to be true. Conquering time is precisely such a film. It recounts the life of Ágnes Keleti, the oldest living Olympic champion and an iconic figure in the world of gymnastics. Director Katalin Oláh masterfully weaves together a tale of resilience, triumph, and unwavering determination; the film takes us on a journey through the tumultuous events of the 20th century, unfolding against Ágnes Keleti's pursuit of gymnastic perfection.
Dark and somber moments, reminders of her survival during the Holocaust and the tragic fate of her father, intertwine with touching scenes of her zest for life even in her advanced years. Ágnes Keleti was born into a Jewish family in Budapest on January 9, 1921. Her passion for gymnastics emerged at a young age, although she initially aspired to become a cellist. However, her musical ambitions were disrupted by the war. Despite all hardships, gymnastics remained her passion and source of strength.
The film employs personal interviews, animations, and archival footage to lend depth and authenticity to the portrayal of such a rich life journey.
