About film
The Partisan with The Leica Camera is a poignant documentary that reveals the story of one family's secrets as Holocaust survivors. We follow the journey of Mundeka Lukawiecki, a passionate photographer, and his wife Hanna Bern, who joined the Polish partisans during World War II and moved to Israel after the war. It all begins when Simon, Mundek and Hanna's 65-year-old son, stumbles across a photo of his parents that he hasn't seen before and decides to get to the bottom of his family's history. As Simon delves deeper into their past, he learns that his father and mother were commanders of a Polish partisan unit during the Holocaust. The story is told from multiple perspectives, we hear both excerpts from Mundek's story to the Yad Vashem researcher and insightful interviews with Simon, neighbors and fellow partisans. The Partisan with The Leica Camera is a movie that captures the essence of a family torn by war and grief. The skillful use of Mundek's own photographs in the film adds depth to the narrative, creating a visual tapestry that takes the viewer back to the days of World War II.
