About film
This is a powerful reflection on being transgender in Orthodox communities. A young woman shows up uninvited to a family religious celebration, where no one recognises her and her own mother tries to make her leave as soon as possible. The heroine didn’t even make it to her sister’s wedding because her conservative relatives will never accept that her body is no one’s choice but hers. Many works of art rhyme LGBTQIA+ and Jewish themes, but the result is seldom so subtle and illustrative as Her Dance.
