About film
This film is based on an actual story, which doesn’t make it any less absorbing and symbolic. It turns out that in August 1945, the British government has invited almost a thousand orphaned Jewish children and adolescents into the UK to help them get ready for the new life, returning to normal in the entire world. Their new safe camp was located close to Lake Windermere, the largest in the country, and about 300 survivors found themselves settled in the Calgarth Estate. Remarkably, the young characters of the film do not turn into decorations, as it often happens on screen, for it can be quite difficult to explain to young people what to perform in front of the camera. But this is also a film about grown-ups, who are trying to comprehend others’ grief and others’ trauma, without having any capacity to do that.
