About film
The Jewish National Fund began distributing its Blue Boxes everywhere in 1901, which makes it the oldest fundraising campaign in the world. It eventually helped to bring in huge money for the purchase and forestation of the Palestinian land. The film’s director Michal Weits is the great-granddaughter of Joseph Weits, the founder of the Blue Box program, and thanks to his diaries she uncovers the mysteries that surround the history of the creation of the State of Israel. She has heartfelt conversations with her family, and as a result, explores Israel’s past and uncovers the uncomfortable truth about Palestinian communities that were displaced from their homelands by the powerful trees that rose from fragile seedlings — planted thanks to the donations from Blue Boxes.
