About film
A Shabbos goy is a non-Jew hired by Orthodox Jews to perform all physical work on the Shabbat. That is someone Hannah desperately needs – there’s a gathering in her house for dinner, but on Friday she forgot to turn off a huge vibrator, which is making recognizable sounds from under the bed. In despair, the heroine of this short comedy about contemporary morals (which nonetheless never becomes crude or tacky) and their intersection with religious customs runs out into the street and finds a Shabbos goy – a Black man, whose presence in the bedroom of a dignified Jewish woman will have to be explained. This film was executive produced by Paul Feig, American actor, director (Spy, A Simple Favor, Ghostbusters (2016)), and screenwriter, whose production company Powderkeg Media supports directors of all genders, LGBT artists, and racial minorities.
