About film
This film tells about the Jewish people in Morocco in a way none have done it before. In Moroccan culture, Jewish families give the name Tamou – the last one – to their newborn girls, hoping that the next child will be a boy. But this film couldn’t be further the simplistic representation of the common family misogyny – queer animation artists Tzor Edery-Mordekovich and Tom Prezman offer a completely opposite point of view to look at gender restrictions and prejudices of the patriarchal society. A lonely housewife Tamou in mid-20th century Morocco lives surrounded by the all-seeing observers as she dives into the inner exploration of her sexuality. In the process of this vibrant and original journey into the depths of a human personality, Tamou discovers his identity as a trans man – not directly, but allegorically, through complex visual images. This film was selected to participate in the student Cinéfondation – the only competition program of the canceled Cannes Film Festival 2020.
