About film
An exquisite period drama for viewers of all ages produced by the Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany. This is a screen adaptation of the novel of the same name - the first part of a semi-autobiographical trilogy by the Danish writer Judith Kerr (who passed away in 2019), who in 1933, as a kid – just like her character Anna – had to flee Berlin with her father the theatre critic and her mother the composer (both were from German Jewish families). They went first to Switzerland, then to Paris, and later to Douvre, trying to escape first from the Nazis, and later from the everyday antisemitism. The plot of the film follows the book – we witness the sad pre-war changes taking place in Germany and France through the eyes of a spoiled child from a rich family, a young girl, to whom the most tragic consequence of Hitler’s rise to power is being separated from her favorite pink toy-rabbit – because there was no room left in suitcases of a family moving to a different country.
