About film
In the 1960s Miami Beach, a resort city in Florida, was populated mostly by the elderly Jewish residents. It was a place people went to peacefully spend their old age. Andy Sweet and Gary Monroe are two American photographers who became enchanted by the city. Together they made several photographic series which captured the atmosphere of the 1970s Miami Beach - the epoch that was soon to be gone. The film’s directors Dennis Scholl and Kareem Tabsch conceived The Last Resort as a short documentary portrait of two young photographers. But they gathered way too much material for that. The Last Resort introduces the audience to Andy Sweet, a talented young photographer with a difficult and tragic life story, and shows what happened to Miami Beach - how it transformed from a safe cozy town into one of the major criminal drug centers on America’s map.
