Shalom Allah (2019)

When Muslims are shown in the media, they are often portrayed as the bad guys. And yet every year, over a hundred Swiss people convert to Islam. «I testify that there is no God but Allah and that Mohammad is His prophet.« The heroes of Shalom Allah study the new religion and begin their journey into Islam. Director David Vogel films them during that transformation and witnesses all the challenges they face. Aïcha moves from the rural province to the big city, Lo Mantos tries to stand their ground against the prejudice of the conservative neighbours, and John grew a beard and flirts with his role of a devout Muslim. The director reflects on his Orthodox religious past and finds common threads between the protagonists and his own biography.
