About film
The Israel Museum in Jerusalem is what is known in the West as an encyclopedic museum. The large construction is home to gigantic and incredibly valuable collections, which need to be kept in proper condition. Director Ran Tal has spent a year and a half filming his documentary in areas closed to tourists and has followed the work of research fellows, conservation professionals, and other employees whose titles are unique and won’t be encountered in any other countries’ museums, such as Kosher experts and Palestinian guides.
The main task that director Ran Tal tried to accomplish was to capture the tiniest details of the way of life of the Museum, invisible even to its frequent visitors - just like its employees spend day after day capturing the life of Israel as it is today and as it was in the past. In this particular case the portrayed community, the little world of the museum, turns out to be a small but realistic model of the Israeli society.
