The Dizengoff Center, Israel's first shopping center, was built on the site of the Nordia neighborhood in Tel Aviv. It was named in honor of the city's first mayor, Meir Dizengoff. Designed by architect Yitzhak Yashar, Construction of the Center began in 1972, and the first store opened there in 1977. The rest of the shopping center was completed in 1983.
Nikolai Vasiliev, architectural historian and professor at the Moscow State Academy of Architecture, will talk about the significance of the Dizengoff Center and similar buildings of the 1960s-70s in the architecture of Tel Aviv.
