Elena Makarova is a writer, art therapist, artist, and sculptor. For more than thirty years, she has been sharing the history of the Theresienstadt Ghetto and curating international exhibitions dedicated to that theme.
About event
Elena and Narrative Film Program Curator Egor Belikov will discuss how the story shown in the film relates to real history. They will talk about the destiny of Kurt Singer, the co-founder of the Kulturbund, which is repeatedly mentioned in Winter Journey. Elena will also talk about the book “Life? or Theatre?” written by Charlotte Salomon, the Auschwitz prisoner who died in 1943. We are going to try to understand how art helped the victims of the Holocaust survive and carry the life light through the true darkness of their times.
