The online reading of Mikhail Kaluzhsky’s play I Anna and Helga will take place on Zoom, and will be performed by actresses who originated the roles in 2012 when they were directed by the German director Georg Genoux, who authored the idea of the project. In 2012 he staged Kaluzhsky’s play at the Joseph Beuys Theatre and at the Sakharov Center. Masha Vdovina plays Anne Frank, Anastasia Pronina plays Helga Goebbels, and Igor Bychkov plays Georg.
The reading will be followed by the discussion: Truth and fiction in conversations about the Holocaust. Anne Frank’s diary and Helga Goebbels» letters – were all of those real? What is the moment when the truth transforms into the written history and is it permissible to mix documentary work and literary fiction while discussing the Holocaust? Playwrite Mikhail Kaluzhsky and critic Alexander Gavrilov will discuss those complicated questions.
