Alexey Turkus is an animation director, screenwriter and illustrator. Laureate and participant of multiple Russian and international film festivals. He graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute and the Advanced Course for Screenwriters and Film Directors.

“Vanity of Vanities”, the short film by Alexey Turkus and Alexey Shelmanov, tells a 19-minute long love story set in a provincial town full of humor, miracles and national flavors.
“The script for the film was written in 1993. We had made a pilot, which was actually shot on film, and then due to technical issues the work was frozen. It was resumed in 2012, sadly without my friend Alexey Shelmanov whom we started making the film with, and who passed away. Completing the production became a matter of principle,” says Alexey Turkus. The director will have a discussion with the viewers right after the screening of “Vanity of vanities”. He will talk about how the film was created and about independent animation in Russia in general.
