“Jewish Christmas” has become a subject of many jokes, sketches and songs. It is the name of one of the first Jewish silent films made in 1913. The plot is based around a conflict between one Rabbi Lei and his daughter who married outside the faith. The Rabbi has cursed his daughter, but the birth of a granddaughter made him review his attitude and visit the family during Christmas, bringing a huge Christmas tree. “Jewish Christmas” is also the name of a comedy by Steve Goodie that was performed on American stages in 2002. Another beloved comedy was created by John Levin and called “A Happy Jewish Christmas”. All these theatrical and film productions are united by the light-hearted well-written music. Musician and writer Vladimir Zisman will talk about generation of singers-songwriters after the screening of the film “Dreaming of a Jewish Christmas”.
